Lyn Asselta
"Pastel, as a medium, is immediate. I can pick up a color and draw exactly what is in my mind at the moment. The combination of the softness of pastel and their ultimate permanence is very appealing to me. I find pastel to be absolutely perfect for conveying the timeless quality of landscapes that are mystifyingly beautiful. From the rocky coast of Maine to the beaches and colorful coastal marshes of Florida and the Southeast, to the ever-changing scenery of the Smoky Mountains of the Carolinas, I have been fortunate to have spent the better part of my life living in the midst of landscapes that never fail to inspire something deep down inside me."

Fabulous mosaic work is found throughout the architecture and design of St. Augustine. Looking at the work of contemporary artists gave me the inspiration to learn this craft for myself. Each of my pieces presents a unique challenge as far as design and execution." Groves is a fan of bugs, reptiles, sea life, and plants, and her subjects tend toward nature. The addition of shells, mirror, brass, and beads adds interest to each piece as well as presenting a challenge to this self-taught artist.

What I am concerned with in the creation of art, is that I express the inner experience of whatever inspires me in a pure and simple way. The source of my inspiration changes, but is most often a moment of connection with the natural world. Most of my works are acrylic paintings, or photographs, which can be seen on the web or at the Energy Lab gallery, 137 King Street, downtown St. Augustine.

Mary Hubley
Mary Hubley's oil paintings are of the North Florida salt marshes, sandy beaches, and the people who enjoy them. She connects to the energy of a place and tries to capture the emotional response to it. "Before I ever lay down a brushtroke, I consider what the subject is saying to me. What does it vibrate? Softness? Excitement? What does the air smell like -- lavender meadows or salty breezes? Is it a hot day? Are there deep, cooling shadows? What do I hear -- seagulls or car horns? The answers to these kinds of questions direct the soul of my painting."

DT LaVercombe
DT LaVercombe graduated from Western Michigan University in 1975 B.F.A. "After more than a half century of traveling this earth, living, creating and experiencing the journey, I have formulated many opinions and seen many things. We in this country and on this earth are stressed to the limits of our tolerances. The hustle and bustle of our daily struggle to survive is overwhelming. I believe that we all need to sit down, sip a glass of good wine, take a deep breath and relax. Look around, colors, light, textures dance in the never ending ballet. It will be alright. Turn off the network news, cook a nice meal and share it with friends and family, go look at the sunset. Celebrate the gift of your life and count your blessings. This is what I attempt to show in my art, there is beauty all around us. It is ours for the taking.

Joyce Meyerpeter
Since a young girl, Joyce has always been fascinated with art. She has been enjoying Florida landscapes and nature for nearly twenty years. Originally from the Midwest, Joyce has felt the pull of the Sunshine State's natural beauty and its unique wildlife. Growing up in humble surroundings, Joyce's pursuit of art surfaced in drawings of dresses and clothing. Creativity came naturally as she had early aspirations of becoming a clothing designer. Joyce is a self taught artist whose influences vary widely from other painters to fine examples from nature itself. Making sojourns into backcountry in her kayak, Joyce paints scenes that few get to experience yet all feel the natural beauty she translates through her work.

Christie D Moore
I describe my art, as Freestyle Mosaics or Folk art. I hand make, paint, cut/smash, and, then place all of the tiles individually, for my mosaics. Most of my current pieces have taken anywhere from 25-50 plus hours to create. Ideas for my pieces come from absolutely anything that might inspire me; religion, a rug, a person, a phrase, a photograph, a song or something in nature. Once I figure out what I am going to do I begin to draw. My drawings are never too detailed, allowing the mosaic materials to influence the final outcome of my work. I also frame all of my art and feel it is an extension of the piece itself.

Jonathan Terranova
Jonathan’s work is an exploration of the formal decision making process within an often anti-academic language, Graffiti. This influence is accompanied by the modernist movement of abstract expressionism. The layering and enormity in size of his paintings create an overall sense of the overwhelming. Similar to the experience one may feel while walking through a large city. His works play with these different languages through his use of his pseudonym, Jist, and his variation in calligraphy that parallels the complexity of marks in abstract expressionism. His pseudonym acts as symbol of infatuation that has to be constantly reinvented along with his text that is repeated, appropriated, and endlessly recycled within each painting.
